Frederick Douglass's Analyse of the United States
I'm reading David Blight's biography of Frederick Douglass at the moment which is very good. It's so funny to me that conservatives today are trying to claim Frederick Douglass as sort of like one of their own. In part because his analysis of the United States is exactly the kind of thing that would be condemned right as out of control wokeness you know leading people to hate the country type of thing. And that even after right even after Douglass rejects the idea that the Constitution is necessarily pro slavery he still has this very radical analysis and critique of the country. Trying to give that pride of place in a history class these days is liable to put you on the bat's head
