Cloudflare Q1 2018 - Is Rust Now Fully Supported for Internal Development?
In 2017, Cloudflare started shipping its first Rust code. People wanted to use Rust's type system to get better guarantees about what their code was doing. Things like edge rules that say, you know, what kind of traffic should be cached or how do DDoS attempts work? So we're using Rust to write new services that are going to really performant. You can add more stringent performance requirements on the data plane by adding a second of latency for each request.
