The Mysterious Sounds Heard in the House of John D Fox in Hidesville
Rumors of a spirit communicating with the living began to spread in Hidesville, Wayne County. People from nearby towns swarmed into Hidesville to either see for themselves or be like Esmeralda in Edward Scissorhands and just stand there yelling Bible verses. The minister asked the Fox family to leave the Methodist Episcopal Church because he thought they had engaged in unholy practices. This was when journalist E. Lewis came into the picture.
