The Importance of Autonomy

Self-directed learning theory says that there are three components of autonomy, competence and relatedness. And it seems that we've really prioritised competence - exams all about demonstrating you know stuff. But the other two relatedness, like relationships and social connections, seem to have a sort of an ideological underpinning. We need to encourage children to be more active learners rather than passive Learners as is often seen in our education system today.
