The Power of Peripheral Devices
The idea is that mother nature doesn't have to continually redesign the brain every time she introduces some new peripheral device. Just like with a potato head where you attach these devices, the brain figures out what to do with the data that comes in. And by the way, when you look across the animal kingdom, you find lots of interesting peripheral devices. You stick them in and you're good to go.
