After his PhD, Don Simon wrote a book about the evolution of sex. He says he couldn't resist straying into the territory of mating strategies in animals. It then became obvious to him that lessons we were learning from animals could be applied to human beings. And so that became very much the theme of certainly the second half of his book The Red Queen.
