Pumice Rocks Float in the Pacific Ocean

When large masses of pumis are all formed together, they can all float together. This leads to a phenomenon known as pumus rafts. A couple of australian sailors who were traveling between islands in a catamaran accidentally piloted into this field of floating stones. They looked out in the moonlight and the shine their spotlight to try to see what was going on. And at first, the pummis jammed their rudder, so it made it hard for them to steer, and they thought they might be stuck. But eventually they were able to get out of the raft zone.
