Insulin Stimulates Glycolysis in the Brain

In senescent or end stage about to die from aging astrocytes in the brain, they shift from anaerobic glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation. They're basically hogging the glucose to themselves and completely combusting it for energy. And so now it's just the astrocyte on the energy and they burn a minority of the energy. So that has to mathematically glucose metabolism as a whole has to go down. But if you look at these studies that show that glucose transporters are decreasing, I don't think that's causing glucose metabolism to go down."
