The Importance of Mathematics in the UK

I think maths is really important both as a sort of pure academic subject but also for the wider economy and things maths has an empirical fact that it pays itself off so many times over. Lots of people go through the maths education system particularly in the UK and come out with a very funny idea of what maths really is I think that's often very negative. So you hear lots of people say they really hated maths at school and so I find this really disappointing because obviously I love maths. But yeah, it's suddenly this sort of slightly political realm is one that I do not feel necessarily comfortable in or at home at.
