Is Whole Genome Sequencing Going to Replace Newborn Screening?

In developed countries, whenever a child is born, the whole genome is just sequenced. That information is stored somewhere and then can be used as a reference point for all sorts of medical conditions later in life. I think there's a couple hurdles we have to get through with that - like who's going to hold this data? How are we going to make it secure? Who's going to let them know about these new conditions in 18 years? You know, those people that would call you with results are not going to be in that same job 18 years later. But I think we'll get there at some point. It may not be for our generation, but maybe a generation below us
