The Suez Crisis
In Egypt, the Suez was a very valuable choke point for world trade and the petroleum trade. In Indonesia, there were also these enormous reserves in West Papua of oil and gold and copper. And only a select few people like Allen Dulles knew about these. The day you want of all this was basically the Suez crisis. But as I said, the US staged a hostile takeover of the British Empire. It's our job as sort of critical historians to gather up these things to put a narrative about the empire," he says.
