A man named CA Reed of Newton, Massachusetts left $500 for a doctor to cut off his head. In the 1880s in Germany, they created these things called waiting mortuaries. These were literally morgues where supposedly dead people would lie in state for a few days before proper burial commenced. This wasn't just people running around being crazy; it was people who people trusted that were very scared of being buried alive.
