What Are You Seeing From a Black Hole?

The universe emits light based on its temperature. As stuff gets hotter, it emits light in higher and higher frequencies. We have a very compact source of x-rays but we don't understand what the object is because it's not emitting in any other frequencies. So they thought if it's only emitting super duper high frequency light, then it must be something extreme like maybe a black hole. And that's the picture that we've seen. If it's there, well, we're seeing no photons. It's like you're seeing the inside of your camera lens cap.
