Byron's Hours of Idleness

Byron wrote a preface to Hours of Idleness that was pretentious and overly humble. The book was reviewed in the Edinburgh Review by Henry Broome, who would later become famous as Queen Carolyn's counsel in her divorce case. It was a quite deliberate ad hominem attack, and Byron was crushed. And it's clear from his letters that he was very upset, hurt and enraged.
