Introduction

The Braddock Washington Pistol is a muzzle-loading, 71-caliber flintlock pistol made of wood with brass fixtures. It's about 16 inches long from the muzzle to the butt on the end of the handle and was most likely made in England around 1750. Not only General Braddock, but also George Washington owned it. And it's really for this reason that this pistol came into the Smithsonian's collection.
