The Crisis of Parking in New York City

There were not enough garages, nor was there enough interest in garages to satisfy the rapidly growing desires of drivers who wanted their vehicles closest to them. In November of 1949, the New York Daily News ran a survey of government officials under the banner wanted a way out of the traffic jam. Among some of the suggested solutions are parking spaces on the fringes of Manhattan with shoppers bust into the center of town. It's one idea. Somebody suggested a public parking authority to finance and construct parking garages. Can you guess? Probably a genius of a city planner.
