The Paramount Decree and the Entertainment Industry in 2022

The Paramount Decree was terminated in 2020. There is a two year sunset period to allow for theaters and the business model to adjust so we actually haven't felt the full effects of the decision yet. What I think the fear is in terms of something like block booking which is that so much of the box office is motivated by huge budget films like Marvel movies. If studios return to the practice of block booking Disney can theoretically tell both large and small movie chains. So this could end up hurting independent filmmaking because there's less room for it in movie theaters. Despite the fact that in person viewing of movies has declined there really is value in being able to see independent films in a movie theater.
