This is a fable for sure. Because the last page takes place in contemporary Baghdad, or torn Baghdad. There are some fighter jets in the background over an old man's head. And there's a little boy hearing about how wonderful Baghdad was from his grandpa. Believing it because he kind of has to believe it to not be thinking about the horrors that he's surrounded by. It's pretty reflective on like the nature of like exploring and discovery and how the dreaming has changed.
