David Frum: In chapter 16 of the Bible, we meet a young samuel that grew up in god. He says he's angry at saul for destroying his city and then putting on a public face to prove it was not an act of war but one of mercy. Frum: Samuel is being swift and stern and absolutely just; there's even enforced empathy here. But unfortunately, after growing up himself, Samuel has grown ego full of self-righteousness - which doesn't serve him very well anymore.
