The Relationship Between Entropy and Space

I still kind of think of entropy as somewhat bound up with space so for example it's the gas molecules that are in half the box versus the whole box. If you suddenly doubled the size of the box and all particles were on the one side then as entropy unfolded they would spread out across the box. naively it feels to me that the more space you've got the more microscopic configurations are possible.
