Are Universities a Part of the Civilization of Higher Education?
The founding of harvard was undertaken specifically with regard to certain civic or civilizational goods, the sense that we needed institutions like this in order to have our culture. Herry: Do you think universities have forgotten, or even to some degree, betrayed, their underlying civic duties? "It's not obvious to me that the universities are playing a role that is making that situation better and not worse," he says.
