The American Strategy to Re-Vassalize Europe
There is a lot of schizophrenia in the American approach. The idea that someone else will lead the invasion of Libya or broker and Iranian, or Iran, Saudi deal is kind of anathema in Washington just as a sense of their self-image. So I think it's true that the United States both says it wants this, sometimes believes it and at other moments cuts it down. And Europe is the traditional place where when Americans show up, they get to sit at the head of the table, everybody tells them how great they are. They don't really like it and they like that leadership element.
