The Importance of Textbooks in Teaching
In Finland and in East Asian countries where they did use textbooks a lot. It means that quite deliberately what they're learning in one lesson relates back to, you know, what they've learned the week before or the month before. And so everything is all very carefully connected up in a way that if you follow the textbooks, students aren't missing out on any really important learning. In England, there was a kind of move away from textbooks. They were seen as being old fashioned and boring and poor teaching. Instead teachers are having to rely on worksheets,. which then there is so much more of a risk that you miss out some important learning.
