In japanese you've got what's basically a sparse tone system, a but. In norwegian and swedish, you have another type of so called pitch accent that also has stress combined with it. So bowels don't get longer, um, and they don't get louder. And vowls in the unaccented part of the word don't change. It can actually be pretty hard to hear this thing,.
