The Rise and Fall of the Audio Cassette
In 1979, Sony introduced a technology that would create a sea change in the music industry. The humble audio cassette would really grab the baton in the late 70s and truly take off in the 1980s. It only took a few years for cassettes to not only make a dent in vinyl's figures, but to actually outsell vinyl itself. Cassettes dominated most of the 80s, but the technology of the compact disc left both cassettes and Vinyl behind.
