When Manufacturing Decline and the Falling Marriage Market Value of Men

A new NBER paper shows that when there is a decline in manufacturing, you also see a decline in marriage. A lot of this seems to have to do with what is going on with men in those areas. They are working less, they're engaging in more risky behaviors and alcohol use. Women are making the decision that these are not marriage material men.
