Pycystritus' Taxes on the Poor

Pycystritus imposed the first tax ever at Athens, beginning with an import tax and then a tax of 5% from all production from the land. Aristotle writes that he lent money to the poor so that they might make a better living from farming for two reasons. In any event, although the Athenian economy became very successful under his tyranny, Pycystritu did impose the first tax in Greek history.
