The Philosophy of Spinoza
Spinoza's philosophy is about coming to understand ourselves as much as the world. Freud was very interested in Spinoza and although they have completely different conceptual schemes for dealing with the phenomena I think they are dealing with some of the same phenomena. So could an emotion or a passion be rational or is it just something without reason that happens to us? It's not exactly irrational in our modern sense in the sense that it isn't necessarily balmy, it's just a rather limited and prone to error sort of experience. Once we start to untangle those things and sort them out then he thinks that we can get clearer ideas of what's what and what's doing what. In that way
