In Japan, bodies are cremated at a lower temperature so that some bone fragments remain. The bones are passed from family member to family member using special large chopsticks and placed into an urn alongside the ashes. Most Japanese have little or no interaction with Buddhist priests other than during funerals. A friend of mine did a few months ago and I had a heart attack because I've turned Japanese after a decade. Don't jam your chopsticks in upright into the rice because that is very poor etiquette, very poor taste.
