The Importance of Types in Java

The types in Rust exist for you, the developer, not so much for the compiler. Variance is a good example. And one of the things that I am just kind of fascinated by is how Rust managed to eliminate the need for covariance and contrabarian. It's like, Oh, well, I'm a bigger fan now. Yeah.
