The Importance of Affirmative Action
In the period in which affirmative action was being adopted, these pragmatic ways of trying to deal with limiting something wrong were common. The term affirmative action has a background itself in the law and in moral theory. It meant doing something rather than nothing; it was understood as a moral imperative. Doing nothing would be just continuing to an ongoing process of harm against persons based upon their ethnicity and skin color.
