Cyrus's Prophecy of the Temple
Isaiah, chapter forty, five verses, one to six speaks of the special purpose cyrus will play in the lord's purposes. This is not the first year of his reign as king of persia, which was back in five 59 b c. As it were, cyrus encouraged the return of groups to their homelands. Haggai and zachariah also record events of this period. While ezra speaks of some building on the temple occurring in this initial period. The precise chronological order of the return to the land and the different stages of rebuilding are much debated,. It's not entirely clear from the text.
