The Legacy of Jefferson
Clay: I worry about Jefferson's legacy not being as sparkling in this area, because he was the most gracious of the framers. Part of that is the manners of the kind of Jane Austen novel world in which he lived with exquisite politeness and you never confront anyone. And what was a strength for him, we can now regard as sort of a disingenuousness. Clay: The John Adams mini-series magnificent made John Adams like he's one of us. He's earthy, he says everything,. He's authentic, real. That's a huge sea change.
