The Challenges of Getting a Space Telescope Up
Anything bigger than one meter, we just can't see it's inaccessible from the surface of the Earth. And so even with new powerful radio telescopes, like say the square kilometer array, it still can't get you beyond a certain size of wavelength because of the atmosphere. The resolution of a telescope is the wavelength divided by the diameter of the telescope. So you want your telescope to be many wavelengths across in order to have good resolution.
