Can a Belief That's Not True Still Be Powerful?

Can a belief that's not true be disempowering? Yes. Can you think of a belief that wasn't true in your life that was empowering at some point? Not on the top of my head. I would imagine that probably most beliefs that are not true are not empowering. People hold on to a lot of junk.
