The Effects of HAP on Ventilator Associative Pneumonia
The next trial presented at ECMID was the ASAP trial, so Australian surgical antibiotic prophylaxis trial. They had over 4,000 patients and they looked at patients coming in for hip and knee replacements. The median time from drug infusion to incision was about 28 to 30 minutes for both groups. This comes up operationally all the time is that if you have to give vancomycin, do you have to wait for the infusion to end? And I will tell you no one agrees across my health care system, even our infection preventionists. But this study, they went ahead and cut at 30 minutes.
