The idea that we have to have this ubiquitous single currency is not necessary. If we look at this as smart contracts, then you could exchange value around a contract without having to have a global currency. IOT services shut down because they wanted to tie transactions like paying for something or supply chain finance to those. They weren't able to insert themselves into the transaction stream and take their per transaction share.
