Is Country Music Like Richard Thompson's Country?

The country thing comes from being from the north of England, because I've spent a lot of time in America. If you take out the obvious black influences that are in 75's music, country music, look at songs like Be My Mistake. Sure, we do it like, kind of psychedelic, furs-y, like, post-punk, but if I play that on the acoustic guitar, that's a country song, you know? You're so weird, I love it.
