Napoleon Bonaparte and the Austrians

In 17 93, louis the fourteenth and his wife marie antoinette were beheaded by order of new government put in place after french revolution. As a result of her death, the austrians became determined enemies of france. Early in 17 96, they prepared to invade the country from northern italy - which at the time was an austrian possession. In april of that year, napoleon bonaparte was given command of the french army in italy and charged with a simple mission to prevent these austrian armies from entering france.
