There are also evergreen ferns, cause you may not have the font of your house in the sun. But if all else fails and you only have room for one thing I would definitely go for rosemary. Every time you brush past the foliage, you'll release the scent. It's supposed to be traditionally lucky to have rosemary on the boundary of your house as well. So if folklore is anything that inspires you in gardening, as it sometimes does me, that is definitely a plant that i would co-recommend.
