Is There a Secure Attachment With a Parent?

A child who has a secure attitude of attachment generally expects that the world is going to receive them in a positive way. That's very different from somebody who has a fearful or avoidant attachment where they feel that any move forward, any choice that moves them out of the known is going to result in something either dangerous or frightening. When we have a good container, there's room for both sets of feelings - hatred and ambivalence.
