The Forever and Ever Symbolism in the Old Testament
Abe: The imagery depicts something happening forever, but its interpretation is what's important here. In the old testament, in places like isaiah 34 and genesis, where the smoke rises forever from the plains of the sodom on gamora,. What we see is that this imagery of torment for ever and ever, smoke rising forever, is communicai symbolism, communicating total destruction and obliteration. But no traditionalist i know expects smoke to rise for ever and Ever from the to belch forth from some ruins of edom in eternity.
