A huge part of the deal with Chumba Wombas is what it means that they're anarchists. How prevalent were self-identifying anarchists in the UK in the mid 80s and on into the 90s? Like, was this a fairly common way to self-identify? And actually they wrote songs as a collective, which might explain why the songs are this weird mishmash of rock and synth pop and folk madrigals.
