The FBI and DHS Struggle With Their Own Internal Guidelines Around Collecting and Processing Open Source Information
CNN's John Defterios says the report adds to our understanding of what happened on January 6. FBI director Chris Ray and then assistant director for counterterrorism, Jill Sanborn had said in front of Congress that they couldn't look at social media without an investigation being underway. The internal FBI guidelines show this is not the case, according to a majority staff report released today. It was "a strange combination of factors that really came about" that ended up mucking up this situation, Defterios writes.
