“Unresolved emotions are such an overlooked piece. It’s huge,” says Dr. Calvin Ng, a chiropractor specializing in applied kinesiology and “neuro-emotional technique,” about the impact of the nervous system on our health. In modern Western society, we often live in a state of constant sympathetic dominance—fight or flight. This unhealed trauma, stored resentment, anger, and misalignment with our true values and desires lead to cellular chaos, also known as inflammation, the cornerstone of disease.
Our nervous system shapes our cellular beliefs. Childhood trauma causes our nervous system to keep us in a perpetual state of stress for safety. This results in self-protective false narratives and limiting beliefs. However, speaking positively to ourselves can change not just our health but our lives entirely. Dr. Calvin explains how he helps clients uncover the root of their issues, “clear the fog,” and move towards their dreams.
Despite not being “woo-woo,” Dr. Calvin emphasizes the importance of connecting to our subconscious to truly experience positive change at the level of our nervous system. No amount of nutrition or exercise can replace this connection. He shares the story of his parents’ differing attitudes toward their jobs and the resulting health outcomes.
