Andrew Carnegie's life encapsulates so many of these different threads that are in the book. He's also Scottish, comes from extremely poor background, has got this poor narrative well father whose skills are now completely obsolete. And probably if we read between the lines, this sort of feels lost in this new world and made his weaving skills useless. So he continues to try and make a living at weaving, but machines are inexorable. It's, and he can't quite find his place in this world.
