The Relic Galaxy NGC 1277

Bob Greene: We have another piece of evidence and this has to do with relic galaxies. He says NGC 1277 contains less than 5% of the dark matter predicted, that a typical galaxy would possess. Greene: The authors hypothesize that either it formed without dark matter for some reason or early on the proto galaxy components lost their dark matter so that when it came together as a galaxy, it didn't have any dark matter.
