What Is Foreign Accent Syndrome?

Julie visited specialist after specialist seeking to understand what was causing her symptoms. Eventually, she saw a speech therapist who diagnosed her with Foreign Accent Syndrome. FAS is the phenomenon whereby somebody suddenly starts to speak with a foreign accent despite them never having used that accent before. The perception of the foreign accent is as much in the ear of the listener as it is in the mouth of the speaker.
