The Importance of Language Modeling in General Purpose AI
Language modeling has proven to be the key to making leap from specialized machine learning applications to the general purpose AI technology of the 2020s. Such do this scenario may have seemed credible in 2014, but they're far less so now that we're starting to understand the landscape better. Some consider a GI to be so distant and mysterious and inscrutable that it'll emerge spontaneously in an intelligence explosion decades from now.
