Ellie looks to the people that are survivors, the ones that are capable in this world. She's not obsessed with a gun or owning a gun because she's afraid for her life. She wants to walk the path of power the way somebody like Joel does. What she is experiencing inside of herself, along with a kind of inevitable revulsion and fear and shock, is aspirational.
